COMPETITIONS
Quiz Kids, the area heat had been held in 1st Ballylinney on 7th October and was won by 1st Larne who then went to the NID final and finished in joint first place, but lost after a tie break question to take second place. Congratulations to 1st Larne.
Battalion Uni-Hoc, will be held in 2nd Ballyeaston Church halls, hosted by 1st Ballyeaston BB on Friday 18th November 2011 starting at 7.00p.m. A total of ten companies have entered.
Battalion 5-a-side Football, area heats to be organised in Ballyclare, Larne and Carrickfergus. The final will be held in Larne Leisure Centre on Friday 20th January 2012 starting 7.00p.m. Wesley Magill pointed out that the NID Spring Competition for 2012 is 5-a-side football, the area heat would need to be held in March and the final in Belfast to be 24th March 2012, he then suggested that our Battalion competition would double as the NID competition as March is always a busy month with displays etc and after discussion and vote it was agreed by all in attendance that there was no point in holding another football competition and the winners of the Battalion competition would go forward to NID Spring Competition final in Belfast.
Young Musician Competition, to be held in Castledawson on Saturday 14th January 2012, closing dates for entries Monday 12th December 2011, entry via Rathmore.
Battalion Figure Marching, programme has been circulated via e-mail to all companies. Competition to be held in 1st Larne on Friday 24th February 2012 starting 7.30p.m. Closing date for entry Friday 17th February 2012 via e-mail to gillemarmstrong@sky.com.
Swimming Gala, the NID gala will take place in Larne Leisure Centre on Saturday 18th February 2012, closing date for entry 30th January 2012 via Rathmore. BB Officers/Leaders are required from the East Antrim Battalion to help with time keeping etc at this competition. They are to contact Wesley Magill and confirm availability by e-mail wesley.magill@nie.co.uk on or before Saturday 4th February 2012.
JS Officers' Conference, was held on 12th November 2011 in Rathmore, Wesley reported there had been a poor attendance from the East Antrim Battalion and considering the conference is held in our Battalion area, it would be good to see a larger number attend. The Conference had been very encouraging and informative.
Joint Quiz Night, will be held on Sunday 4th December 2011 in 1st Greenisland Presbyterian Church starting 3.00p.m. Collection will be donated to the NI Children's Hospice.
OTHER BUSINESS
As a follow up from the JS Conference Wesley Magill asked if we as a Battalion should consider introducing a Scripture exam for Junior Section. After discussion and vote all agreed not to introduce this. Lorraine Bell asked if 1st Raloo could enter two teams into the Uni-Hoc competition as they had a large number of boys. The hosts, 1st Ballyeaston, explained that this was too short notice as the competition was only three days away and the draw etc had been completed after the closing date. A discussion then took place and it was agreed that if two teams were being permitted to enter and the numbers did increase then the uni-hoc would need to be held in area heats as is the 5-a-side football. Although there is usually only one team per company as some companies are only to enter one team.
Next Meeting Wednesday 25th April 2012 in 1st Carrickfergus, the Methodist Church on Albert Road, Carrickfergus. The meeting will be in the form of an inter-company Table Quiz with a supper served. There will be prizes for the winners. More details will be circulated via e-mail nearer the time.
There being no further business Wesley Magill closed the meeting and everyone re-joined the other councils.
