Margaret McAdoo opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to 1st Larne. Opening devotions were led by Margaret McAdoo. The Battalion Secretary then updated everyone on N.I.D business.

The Councils then met to discuss their respective business.

JUNIOR SECTION COUNCIL MEETING

Present:- David Hoy, 1st Kilbride. Neill McAdoo, 1st Ballylinney. Trevor Mills, 1st Ballyeaston. Wesley Magill, 1st Larne and Gillian Armstrong 8th Carrickfergus.

Apologies were received from:- Greg Moore 1st Carrickfergus, Gavin Watt 1st Greenisland, Sally Picton 1st Whitehead, Greg Coates 7th Carrickfergus, Susan Featherson 2nd Ballyclare and Derrick Murphy 1st Ballyeaston.

UNI-HOC COMPETITION

Had been postponed on 26th November 2010 due to the adverse weather conditions. The competition will now be held on Friday 4th March 2011 in 8th Carrickfergus. Gillian to e-mail everyone. This Competition will be held on the same night as the Figure Marching Competition.

Quiz Night

The attendance was very poor, although the weather may have had some bearing on this. Gillian advised that Battalion Executive had discussed the Service being hosted by a different Company each year, like the Battalion Parade, this would maybe encourage Companies to participate. Plan to be drawn up by Anchor Chairperson, Margaret McAdoo.

5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL

The Final was held on Friday 14th January 2011 in Larne Leisure Centre. The winners were 1st Larne, congratulations to them Thanks to all who helped in organising the area heats and thanks to Wesley for arranging the final.

YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR

Was won for the second year by Joseph Parkes from 6th Carrickfergus. Congratulations to Joseph. Wesley advised that this competition would be moving to the Castledawson area next year to encourage other companies from the rest of the Province to take part.

NID SWIMMING GALA

Wesley advised that the location of the gala had been changed to Portadown as Larne pool would probably not be ready. The date is still Saturday 26th February 2011. Wesley also advised that the Gala would be held in Larne next year and as such NID were giving early notice that timekeepers would be required from East Antrim Battalion.

FIGURE MARCHING COMPETTION

Will be held on Friday 4th March 2011 in 8th Carrickfergus at 6.30p.m. Only three Companies have indicated they are taking part. Gillian to e-mail the Battalion and to try to encourage others to participate.

NID SPRING COMPETITION

The Battalion area heat will be held on Friday 18th March 2011 in 1st Whitehead staring at 7.00p.m.(time to be confirmed with Sally Picton). Rules of the competition to be sent via e-mail to everyone. The Final will be held on Saturday 26th March 2011 in Ballymoney. Details will be sent to the heat winners via Rathmore.

BOY ACTIVITY WEEKEND

Cancelled due to lack of interest.

QUIZ KIDS

Wesley advised that closing date for entry for Quiz Kids 2011 was 19th September 2011. The area heats are to be held on Friday 7th or Saturday 8th October 2011. The final will either be held in Coleraine or Lurgan. Wesley also advised that Rathmore would accept entries from Battalions. After discussion on this topic it was agreed that we should try to contact all our companies in August regarding taking part in Quiz Kids. An e-mail is to be sent out with a different Battalion closing date, possibly 5th September 2011, then if some Companies are only starting back their entry can at least sent to Rathmore as a block Battalion entry and avoid missing the closing date. It is hoped that if this does happen the Battalion will fund the cost of £3 per Company. Gillian to speak with the Battalion Treasurer regarding this matter. ***** Anyone in the Ballyclare area who can host this Competition on Friday 7th October 2011 please contact Gillian via e-mail ***

COMPETITIONS

Gillian advised that Belfast Battalion have a 'Reading' Competition, boys are divided into P5, P6 & P7 age groups, each group is given a set Bible reading (this can vary for each age group) and then the boys may also pick a passage of determined length from their favourite book to read. The boys obviously read aloud. Each participant could be given a certificate for taking part and a small trophy could be awarded to the winner of each age group. It was felt that this would maybe encourage boys to take part in Church Services. Those present agreed that this could possibly be an alternative competition to the Figure Marching, or could be held on alternate years to the Figure Marching. It was also agreed that may be suitable for those boys who are not "sporty". If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions for competitions please e-mail Gillian.Please also send any comments regarding any competitions to Gillian.

ANNUAL DISPLAYS Those in attendance had brought Display materials, which will in due course be on the Battalion website. It was agreed that an e-mail with Display dates could be sent to everyone and thus Officers could possibly attend each other's Displays and obtain ideas. Gillian to action.

There was no further business, the Council meeting was closed.
