Junior - Minutes
Junior Section Council Meeting held on Monday 9th November 2009
at 8.00p.m. in 1st Larne Presbyterian Church Halls.
Battalion President Mr Drew Buchanan M.B.E welcomed everyone to 1st Larne and opened the meeting with a short time of devotion. The Battalion Secretary, Mr Frank Picton, gave the results for the Fitzell and McCune Trophies which were then presented by the Battalion President. The councils then broke up into their relevant sections to discuss further business and events.

David Hoy opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.
MATTERS ARISING
Quiz Kids was held on Friday 9th October 2009 in 2nd Carrickfergus. 1st Larne won the area heat and took part in the Northern Ireland District Final in Omagh. 1st Larne finished in second place with 80 points, the winners were Kilrea with 81 points. Congratulations to Wesley Magill and the boys from 1st Larne.
Annual Carol Service will be held in 1st Larne Presbyterian Church on Sunday 6th December 2009 at 3.30p.m. Wesley Magill expected the service to last approx. 45 minutes. 1st Larne will decide on a charity of their choice for the collection.
Battalion Figure Marching Competition:- after some discussion it was agreed that this competition should be held provided there are at least 5 companies taking part. A programme was being prepared and will be sent via e-mail to all once it is ready. It is hoped that the event will be held in 2nd Ballyclare Methodist Church on Friday 26th February 2010 at 7.00p.m. Susan Featherston to confirm this. Closing date for those wishing to take part is 18th December 2009. Those wishing to take part should contact Gillian Armstrong via e-mail please.
5-a-side football:- It was agreed to go ahead with this competition. Area heats are to be arranged:-
1. Carrickfergus heat to be arranged by Greg Moore, provisional date 28th November 2009. Further details will follow via e-mail.
2. Ballyclare heat to be arranged by David Hoy who will notify everyone via e-mail of time date and venue.
3. Larne heat arranged by Wesley Magill to be held in 1st Larne on Friday 11th December 2009.
Wesley Magill will arrange the final in Larne Leisure Centre for Friday 8th
January 2010.
PLEASE NOTE THE RULES OF THIS COMPEITION ARE TO STRICTLY ADHERED TO TEAMS ARE MADE UP OF 7 BOYS WITH ONLY 5 PLAYING AT ANY ONE TIME.
Uni-hoc Competition:- this competition was a success in previous years and those present agreed to hold it again this session. Jennifer Dickey offered the use of 1st Ballyeaston for the competition which is provisionally planned for Friday 29th January 2010 in 1st Ballyeaston starting at 7.00p.m. Closing date for entry is 8th January 2010 via e-mail to Gillian Armstrong.
PLEASE NOTE THIS COMPETITION IS FOR P5 AND P6 BOYS ONLY AND TEAMS TO CONSIST OF 7 BOYS WITH ONLY 5 PLAYING AT ANY ONE TIME.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS:-
Wesley Magill reminded everyone of the Young Musician of the Year Compeition being held on Saturday 16th January 2010 at 1.45p.m. Entry is via Rathmore and should returned before Monday 7th December 2009. Further details can be found in the August newsletter.
Reminder of the Swimming Gala in the Orchard Leisure Centre in Armagh on Saturday 27th February 2010. Further details will be sent out in the next Junior newsletter.
Wesley also advised that a decision had not yet been reached regarding the format for the Junior Spring Competition, although the final had been arranged for Saturday 27th March 2010 in Wellington Presbyterian Church in Ballymena.
The East Antrim area heat for the Spring Competition will be held in 1st Larne on Friday 12th March 2010 at 7.00p.m. Teams are to consist of 4 boys. Further details will be available in the next Junior Newsletter.
Boy Activity Week-end:- Wesley Magill again reminded everyone of this weekend which is held in Rathmore and has been very poorly attended by our Battalion. After a lengthy discussion it was agreed that an effort should be made by our Battalion to attend this event. Closing date for registration is Monday 19th April 2010. The weekend is planned for 7th - 9th May 2010. Please give this very careful consideration and please notify Gillian Armstrong on or before 16th February 2010 if you would like to attend.
The group attending should consist of 4 boys and 1 Officer, they do not have to be from the same company.
Annual Battalion Parade planned for Sunday 21th March 2010 in Carrickfergus.
More details closer to the time.
Gillian Armstrong also advised everyone to make use of the Battalion website and advised that there is a facility for resource information to be included on the website. Anyone who has display items, craft items, ideas for outings or any other useful information please forward this via e-mail to office.eab@boysbirgadeni.org.uk so that the information will then be available to help others.
