Skittleball
The annual senior skittleball competition was held in Downshire Community School
on Friday 10th October. Greenisland Company had been the winner for the last two
years but they did not enter this year, leaving the way clear for 1st Ballyclare
and 2nd Carrick to battle it out.
As only two teams turned up,
the competition would be decided over a best
of three games format. The first
match was very close, with Ballyclare getting an early score from Steven
McMullan. Ballyclare dominated the
first half but after half time, 2nd Carrick started to come into the match and
they scored an equaliser after some shocking goal tending from Andrew Lorimer!
Last minute of the match and
Ballyclare were awarded a penalty. The
first throw was missed by
Steven McMullan but Andrew Huchinson scored the second and won the game for 1st
Ballyclare.
The second game was again close with 2nd Carrick working a number of good
opportunities but failing to convert. Ballyclare again took a first half lead after a well-worked
move with James Johnston scoring the knockdown.
This gave Ballyclare confidence and another good move in the second half
gave them another knockdown, Andrew Huchinson the scorer.
The game ended like this and gave Ballyclare an unassailable 2 games
lead. 1st Ballyclare were the
winners.
The winning Ballyclare Squad was Michael McConkey (capt), Andrew Lorimer, Andrew
Huchinson, James Johnston, David Thompson, Andrew Woodside and Steven McMullan
