Pictures from 7 aside football held on Saturday 6th October 2007 in Ballyclare.

On Saturday 6 October God was good to us and the sun shone at Ballyclare Secondary School for the 7 A side Football Tournament. 9 Teams were in attendance and sadly Whitehead BB unfortunately had to pull out of the tournament at the last minute.

Our referees for the competition were Andrew Woodside and Graham Montgomery Officers In 1st Ballyclare Boys Brigade who last year completed an IFA refereeing course.

The competition was split into two groups;

Group A 8th Carrickfergus 1st Ballyclare 2nd Larne 7th Carrickfergus

Group B 5th Carrickfergus 1st Ballyeaston 3rd Ballyclare 1st Raloo CarrickIsland ( 4th Carrick and 1st Greenisland combined team)

Two teams from each group would go through to the semi finals and then a final and also a third and fourth placed play off.

In Group A qualification from the group came down to the last match between 7th Carrickfergus and 2nd Larne. The game ending in a draw meaning that with 1st Ballyclare and 2nd Larne tied on 4 points 1st Ballyclare went through on goal difference having scored one more than 2nd Larne

In Group B last years winners 1st Ballyeaston showed they would not give up their title without a fight by topping the group with 10 points. One to watch for the future is Patrick McNair from 1st Ballyeaston who has attracted interest from Premiership Clubs and has i'm told opted for Manchester United. Runners up in the group were 5th Carrickfergus.

The semi-finals of the competition resulted in two local derbies which I'm sure has lead to debate along the school corridors this week.

1st Ballyeaston V 1st Ballyclare

7th Carrickfergus V 5th Carrickfergus

1st Ballyeaston beat 1st Ballyclare 1-0 to reach the final. In the 10 minutes of normal time between 7th and 5th Carrickfergus in the other semi-final neither team could score which resulted in a penalty shoot out were 5th Carrickfergus emerged the victors.

In the final last years winners 1st Ballyeaston defended their title against 5th Carrickfergus in the final and over the 10 minute game 5th Carrickfergus emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory.

In the play off for 3rd and 4th place 1st Ballyclare played 7th Carrickfergus and 1st Ballyclare emerged winners by two goals to 1.

At the presentation of the shield 5th Carrickfergus showed their delight by then going on a lap of the pitch.

A good days competition was had by all and all games were all played in a good spirit.

Thanks must go to Harry Blair - PE Teacher Ballyclare Secondary for making the grounds at Ballyclare Secondary School available to us.
