HISTORY

1st Maralin company of the Boys Brigade was founded on the 23rd November 1945, with a membership of 27 officers and boys. It was the 'brain child' of the Rev George Quin, who was the Rector of the Parish at that time. George Nicholson became the first Captain.

In 1955 the Rev A Douglas became President of the Company and he appointed four Vice-Presidents who gave sterling service to the Company. They were Mr Harry Cathcart, Mr James Ferris(the Captains father) Mr Bob Gawley and Mr Dynes Uprichard.

Dr Wesley Ferris who was Captain during the 50's and later became President of the Lurgan Battalion gained two notable First's. Sgt David Mack became the first member of the company to win the coveted Kings Badge and Jim Mulligan became the first boy to pass from junior boy to Lieutenant.

Mr Tom Mathers took over the company in the 80's and whilst in charge the Company won many awards namely the Centenary Cup in 1984 and 1986. Tom sadly died in 1990 and was a great blow to both Maralin and the Battalion. At this time the Company went out of existence.

In 1994 the Company started to reform with 50 boy's in the Anchor Section. Officer in charge was Ann King and the Captain Mr Paul Nicholson. In 1995 the Junior Section was formed with 30 boy's. Officer in charge Mr Oswald Ellis. In 1996 the Company section came into being with 20 boy's. Officer in charge was Donald Bell. In 1999 resigns as Captain and goes back into the Junior Section as an Officer. The Captaincy was taken on by Oswald Ellis with Raymond Press taking over O-I-C Junior Section. 2000 saw the appointment of Raymond Neill as O-I-C Company section.

2001-2002 see's the Company Section commence the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
